The first Digital Media Africa conference (DMA 2016) organised by WAN-IFRA was held from 28 to 30 September at The Maslow Hotel in Johannesburg. Five themes defined DMA 2016: Reader revenue, Distributed content, Paid content, Millennials & Generation Z and Classifieds.
The conference which focuses on digital revenues, attracts top-level publishers, editors, and digital executives from around the world. In total, about 360 industry delegates from more than 16 countries attended the three-day event. The event kicked off with a Facebook Live workshop led by Matej Lončarić and Goran Gavranović of 24sata, Croatia, drawing 200 participants.
The winners of the inaugural edition of the Digital Media Africa Awards were presented as part of the first full day of the conference. The Digital Media Awards are arguably the most prestigious recognition of best practice innovation in digital publishing worldwide. The awards are presented in major regions throughout the world including Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and South Asia.
Media24, Independent Group, Nation Media Group and Times Media Group were among the winners of the awards presented by WAN-IFRA.
The winners from each region subsequently compete for the World Digital Media Awards, which will be announced for this year during WAN-IFRA’s World Publishing Expo in Vienna in October.
The winners of the Digital Media Africa Awards were chosen from 10 categories. View the full list of winners here.
